Special Report: U.S. Conventional Weapons Destruction in Laos

In the late 60s and early 70s, the US dropped bombs throughout Laos. Unexploded bombs have been showing up all over the country. While the US is funding the disarmament of these “bombies” through the State Department, they are still high risk and even prevent economic development in the area.

Implications: The Bureau of Political-Miltary Affairs is extending a survey to find UXO (unexploded ordnance’s) throughout Laos. They have more accurate estimates of how many bombs were left unexploded, they don’t know the locations of the explosions. The article ends with a request to donate towards the NGOs that are working in the region.
