Preventing Dirty Bomb Terrorism: New NTI-CENESS Report Highlights Central Asian Republics’ Commitment to Preventing Radiological Risks

The article summarizes the report focused on increasing security of radioactive materials in Central Asia. Every year large amounts of radioactive materials go missing due to improper maintenance of the materials and improper disposal. These materials could be used by terrorists in the making of dirty bombs which is a fear of the governments in Central Asia.

 

Outlook: The article points out the key issues outlined in the article. Moving forward the governments of Central Asia, along with international organizations such as the IAEA, will push forward to limit the mishandling of radioactive materials. It is expected that other nations, as well as the US and Russia, will have a hand in helping to control the peaceful use of radioactive materials in Central Asia.
