The Disappointing, But Not Devastating, “No Deal” Result at the Hanoi Summit (UPDATED)

This article discusses the disappointing result of the summit in Hanoi between President trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong. The goal of this meeting was to move toward a long-term goal of denuclearization and peace. Instead, both parties have conflicting views of what was said and no meaningful actions were taken.

Relevance: Trump and his team have wasted the seven months since the Singapore summit to make any progress on goals of denuclearization. During this time, North Korea has continued to grow their nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. As of now, Trump and Kim Jong have no follow-up meetings or clarity to move toward the long-term goal. There are high security risks at states and the negotiators, Trump and Kim Jong, need to act urgently.
