Training Boosts Chemical Emergency Response Capabilities of First Responders from Latin America and the Caribbean

This article outlines training for First Responders. The training was to help equip them to respond appropriately and in a timely manner to chemical emergencies. The training was provided in Panama to individuals from many Latin American and Caribbean nations. The OPCW and Panama helped to run the training.

 

Significance: These trainings help with confidence building measures in the region. A paragraph at the bottom of the article titled “Background” provides insight into the position of the article, siting the OPCW’s elimination of an entire class of weapons, their Nobel Peace prize, and the elimination of 96% of reported chemical weapons since its inception in 1977.
