Small Arms, Big Harms :A Call to Action by Civil Society on Gender and Small Arms Control

This  call to action from the International Action Network on Small Arms advocates for a gendered approach to small arms disarmament. Men own the majority of guns, and are usually the perpatrators and victims of small arms violence. However, women often are harmed by partners, and also often have to the shoulder the burden of losing a partner to small arms violence.

Action Items: The calls to action include advancing gender perspectives in the discussion of small arms. Civil society, states, and organizations have to challenge gender stereotypes of masculinity that lead to increased arms violence. Finally, women should be consulted in the conversations about small arms disarmament.
