The German Federal Foreign Office and Bonn International Centre for Conversion have helped with the creation of a database which will help with tracking and managing SALW stockpiles in the African Union. The database is intended to help with the spread of information and increase transparency as well as help the African Union’s goals to end the spread of guns in Africa.
Outcome: This new database will help promote better methods of weapons management on the African continent. The database is just one small step towards the goals of ending the SALW proliferation in Africa. As the international community continues to come together to assist to the African Union it will be interesting to see how improvements are made to prevent proliferation of small arms not only in Africa, but also the world.
