My role as the Secretary of State is the President’s chief foreign affairs advisor. I lead the nation in terms of foreign policy issues. The State Department negotiates treaties and agreements with foreign entities and represents the United States at the United Nations.  The mission of the State Department is to protect and promote U.S security, prosperity, and democratic values and shape an international environment in which all Americans can thrive.
